Hawks week 2

Overal record 3-1

Game 1- 110-92 Hawks over Toronto- The Hawks beat the Raptors fairly bad but they did  have a major loss when Josh Smith sprained his ankle late in the first quarter. But back to the game the Hawks showed a little bit of offense though there deffense did look a little bit shakey wiithout Josh Smith in the post. the difference in this game was the Hawks bench.  Ronald Murrey and Maurice Evans both played very good off the bench.  Without Smith though the interior deffense looked shakey and both Chris Bosh and Jermane Oneal got there points. Marvin Williams is proving that last season was not a fluke and that he will consistantly put up 14-18 points a game. The Hawks also got a lot of transition points and a lot of fast break points.

Game 2 89-85 Hawks- this game was a lot closer than it should have been. The Hawks should have wiped the floor with the Thunder but we really showed that we miss Josh Smith. He is a great rebounder and without him the Thunder scored a lot of points in the paint and scored a lot on second chance points. Luckily we scored a lot of points off turnovers and fast break points which in the end won us the game. Ronald Murry really looks good so far this season and he proved it again with 14 points off the bench.

Game 3 113-108 Hawks- 2 words are the reason we won the game Al Horford. 27 points and 17 rebounds. Wow what a statline. Joe Johnson also had 17 points and Mike Bibby scored 22. Are deffense looked shakey and Derrick Rose looked really good but we shot over 47 percent from the floor and we outscored them in fastbreak points. Are deffense in the backcourt looked very bad and that caused the Bulls to be able to get into the lane and score.

Game 4 103-102 Celtics- Are first loss of the season is to the team that gave us are last loss of the season last year. Paul Pierce hit a buzzer beater to beat the Hawks but if we would have had Josh Smith I think we would have won this game because KG killed us in this game. Today we proved that we can keep up with the defending champs and that is nothing to feel bad about. Joe Johnson played great and Ronald Murrey and Maurice Evans both played great off the bench. Al Horford had problems keeping up with the KG so Josh Smith was really missed in this game.

Atlanta Hawks week 1

This is a sum of what has happand so far this season with the Hawks.

Game 1- Hawks 99 Magic 85. The Hawks played a very strong first and third quarters and Joe Johnson put this team on his back in the 4th quarter scoring 9 of his game high 25 points in the last quarter of play. The Hawks played there best basketball in the first quarter when the Magic only hit 3 of there first 18 points. The Hawks really capitolized on the Magic's lazyness on deffense by scoring 17 fast break points. Perhaps the best part of the Hawks deffense in this game was the Hawks guarding against the three which caused the Magic too shoot 4-25 from the 3point line.

Player of the game- Josh Smith, played great deffense with 4 steals and 5 blocks and had a good night on offense putting up 17 and 10 while not turning the ball over once.

Game 2- Hawks 95 76ers 88- Great game. Hawks make a ridiclas comeback with Joe Johnson for the second straight game stepping up in the 4th quarter and hitting the game icing 3. Again the Hawks played very good deffense holding the 76ers to 88 points and forcing them into 18 turnovers. The Hawks played great d on Iguodala forcing him to shoot 6 of his 13 shots from 3 point land and as long as you keep Iggy he will not be very productive. Joe Johnson was able to get to the free throw line and mix in his jumper to get 35 points and lead the Hawks to there second straight victory.

Player of the game- Joe Johnson had a great game and played good d on Andre Miller and Iggy he also hit the game icing shot but also lead the game in scoring.

Game 3- Hawks 87 Hornets 79- the deffense carried the Hawks and they pulled off the upset against the Hornets. They made sure that the Hornets two weapons didn't completly go off holding Paul to an average game and West to 15 points they also held Peja to 2-7 from the 3pt line so they shut him down. They shot good from the 3pt line hitting 40% of there 3's which was a big improvement from the previous two games. Again Joe Johnson led the game in scoring and grabed 7 boards. The big thing for this game was they outrebounded the Hornets 45 to 35 .

Player of the game- Joe Johnson led the game in scoring which he has done in all 3 games so far this season he looks like he could win a scoring title this year.

Player of the week-  Joe Johnson, Johnson played great all around baasketball and gave the Hawks close to 30 points a game.

Loser of the week- The whiole Hawks free throw shooting. They have been bad this season from the free throw line and must improve that or they will be in big trouble in close games.

T-Wolves week one

This is a sum of what has happened in the first week of the T-Wolves season

Record 1-2- Game 1 versus the Kings- Score 98-96 T-Wolves. The Wolves managed to pull off a tough win despite being horrific from the free throw line. You aren't going to win many games when you only shoot 11-22 from the free throw line but other than the free throw line we played very well. Al Jefferson was a complete animal in the first half scoring most of his points but in teh second half the Kings really locked in on Jefferson and Kevin Love got a chance to show what he was made of. Love got some easy buckets but also showed some very nice moves down low in the post playing against Jason Thomphson and Spencer Hawes. He also grabed 9 rebounds. Another key player in this game was Corey Brewer who held one of the games most dangerous scorers in Kevin Martin to 5-19 performance from the floor. Though Brewers stats didn't exactly show it he was one of the dey players for the wolves.

Game 2 versus the Macvricks Score 95-85 Mavs- The Mavs just outplayed us. Jason Terry was able to score and so was Nowitzki. The one good thing I saw from the wolves in this game were Rashad McCants who was the best scorer out on the floor when he was in the game and kevin Love. Love played Nowitzki down low and made Dirk guard him down llow and bang with the other big men whitch took Dirk out of his game while Love was in the game. Other than that we shot terribly form the field are starters were a combined 20-56. thats terrible. The game was closer because are bench played very well but are starters must improve or this will be a very long season.

Game 3 versus the Thunder Score 88-85 Thunder-  We should have won this game but we blew a 4th quarter lead (boy doesn't that sound familiar) The T-Wolves really looked bad in the 4th quarter. They looked like they had no energy left and couldn't grab a deffensive rebound. They allowed Russel Westbrook to score and take over the game in the 4th quarter.  Al Jefferson bounced back from a bad game and had his strongest outing of the season. On the other hand Randy Foye continued his slump (3-23) for the last two games and kevin Love needs to take charge and demand the basketball a little bit more because he has the ability to get to the free throw line and get other bigs into foul trouble.

Player of the week- Kevin Love. Love had a nice first week in the NBA averaging 8.3 points and 5 boards over 19 minutes. Thats 16 and ten per forty minutes and those are pretty good numbers. I would like to see him be a little more aggresive and call for the ball in the post a little bit more.

Loser of the week- Randy Foye and Mike Miller- Foye is in a year where he must prove that he can be a starting point guard and Miller is suposed to be hitting 3's to take presure off of Big Al and reither of them did there job over the first 3 games. Foye shot terribly  and so did Miller.

Timberwolves preview

This is my 2008-2009 official Timberwolves preview.

Strating lineup

  • Center- Al Jefferson- Jefferson is really a power forward but will see a majority of his minutes at the center position this year.
  • Power Forward- Kevin Love- Love won't score a lot this year maybe 10 pts a game but I could see him grabing 10rebounds a game and maybe 3 assits a game. As long as he keeps the turnovers down than he will keep this spot this year.
  • Small Forward- Corey Brewer- Brewer is the deffensive presence on this team. He is capable of shuting down some of the best players in the NBA. His offense looks improved from last year (which isn't saying much) but he looks like he might be able to score around 12 pts a game and play great deffense.
  • Shooting Guard- Mike Miller- He will get his points and strech the deffense with his 3pt shooting. He will provide leadership for this young team.
  • Point Guard- Randy Foye- Foye is a pretty good young pg when healthy. He can score and pass. His only problem is staying healthy and if the wolves are going to be better than last year they need Foye to stay healthy the whole year.

Bench

  • Rashad McCants- McCants is the best scoring threat on this team. He can light up the scoreboard. This year I am hoping that he will be more aggresive and stop taking so many 3pt shots and start driviing to the basket and getting to the free throw line more. If he improves his deffense he could possibly be a starter by the end of the year.
  • Sebastion Telfair- A pass first point guard who is more than able to take over at point guard if Foye goes down with an injury.
  • Ryan Gomes- Plays good deffense and can score a little bit iif he is given the chance. Should get decent minutes at Small Forward or Power Forward.
  • Craig Smith- He can score like crazy. He is a complete animal who looks more like a football player than a basketball player but has the soft touch of a basketball player. He can score but is limited to scoring around the hoop and he has problems defending other power forwards.
  • Rosney Carney- Carney is considered a bust . He is long and a good rebounder. He has the ability to light it up from outside and he can play good deffense.
  • Jason Collins- A big body who may get some starts if Love strugles or against bigger true centers.
  • Blake Ahearn- Won't play a ton but he will hopefully keep his head up because I think he can be a solid backup in the NBA in the future.
  • Craig Richards- A big body that has 6 fouls to give. Won't do much except hack a shaq or things like that.
  • Mark Madson- Provides vetran leadership that is about it though.

predicted record for this year- (40-42)

This may seem a little farfetched to some but in the end of last year they played a lot better than at the begining of the year. The last half of the year they played close to 500 and they have gotton better over the offseason so if you think about it a 40 win season is not that farfetched.

Southwest division predictions.

  1. New Orleans- they have a great point guard in Chris Paul and a good power forward in David West. At Center they have Tyson Chandler who has become a great deffensive center though he is limited on offense. At small forward they have Peja who is a great 3pt shooter though does little else anymore. They are still missing a good shooting guard, If the  Nuggets decide to trade Iverson midway through the year maybe he would work here. He has shown that he doesn't have to be the leader of the team in Denver and I think he could help this team win an NBA championship.
  2. San Antonio Spurs- They are aging and are now in the second class of the west but they are still a good team. Tim Duncan is still a great power forward Tony Parker is still pretty young Bowen is old but he can still play deffense. The onne thing that worrys me about the Spurs is Manu. If he is not healthy than they move down to third in this division.
  3. Houston Rockets- They have there own big three (though not as good as Bostons) but the only problem wiht there big three is that all three of them have had problems with injurys and I just can't see all of them staying on the court for a whole year.
  4. Dallas Mavricks- Dallas is aging and they are aging fast. Kidd is past his prime, Josh Howard will end up getting suspended if he can''t get himself toghether off the court and Dirk cant do it all by himself. Heres my bold prediction Dirk gets traded in the next 2 years.
  5. Memphis Grizzlies- Oh boy, They have too many guards to give tham all playing time and I think O.J. Mayo will get frustrated on this team becasue he is used to bing on a winning team and I think that he has an attitude problem. In the front court I don't think that Marc Gosol is as good as his brother at power forward they are a complete joke. Rudy Gay is a good player though Im not sure is he is a franchise player. I see him as being more of a second option on a really good team but he is the number one on a very bad team.

Yikes Vikes

From watching the vikes last Monday I am a little bit worried, But not about T-Jack. Well thats not entirly truue but I think that most of the blame has to go to Childress. He has got to be one of the worst coaches in the NFL. He runs the ball on first and second down untill we are down by too many points to keep running. We need to mix it up a little bit and let T-Jack throw the ball a little more in the first half. He looked decent in the second half with the exception of the interception at the end but other than that he looks good when he has the confidence of the coaches. unfortunatley he doesnt have the confidence of the coaches and untill he gets that he wont be effective in the NFL.

NBA Northwest Division predictions

Here are my predictions for the Northwest divison next year.

  1. Utah Jazz- They have a great pooint guard in Deron Williams and a great power forward in Carlos Bozzer. Then they have solid role players at Center and Small forward in Mehmet Okur and AK47. But the thing that they need most is a new shooting guard. Someone who can put up 15 points per game and play good deffense. AK47 suposivly wants out so maybe they trade him for a shooting guard because they are deeper at Small Forward than Shooting guard.
  2. Portland Trailblazers- They are a great young team and will be ready for the playoffs this year. They have Brandon Roy who has turned into a great player and then the have Lammarcus Aldridge at power Forward and he has quietly turned into a productive power forward who could put up a double double this year. At Center they have Greg Oden  who won't do a ton of scoring but he will help them deffensivly and he will help control the lane and take away easy shots in the middle. At point guard they have Jerroyd Bayless. I see Bayless fitting in well with Roy because Roy does bring the ball up the court pretty often and  that will take some of the pressure off Bayless if he can play a little bit of shooting guard and doesn't have to always be the playmaker.
  3. Denver Nuggets- They don't play deffense and that will be why they don't make the playoffs this year. AI is getting older and Im not sure how much longer he can keep up this scoring pace. Melo isnt as good as AI and I don't think that he can lead his team to the playoffs by himself. He is a great scorer but he doesn't do much else.
  4. Minnesota Timberwolves- They might overtake the Nuggets for third place. They have a great power forward who is an absoulote stud. At point guard they have Randy Foye who when he was healthy put up numbers similar to Brandon Roy last year. Than they have Mike Miller who can strech a deffense with his 3pt shooting. At Small Forward we have Ryan Gomes and Gomes can put up 12 and 6 a game and play good deffense. THan there is the other of the Twin towers with Kevin Love. Love played well in the summer league and should get some easy baskets playing nest to Big Al.
  5. Oklahoma City TBA- Durant will take another step forward this year but Russel Westbrook will be this years Corey Brewer. Good D bad offense. Than there is Jeff Green. Green played okay last season but needs to become a more consistant scorer next to Durant. They will have problems at Center and power forward antd that will be what the do with there good draft pick next year.
